Have you ever wondered what the early post-Resurrection Assemblies were like?
I have….many times. This is the rationale behind AT THE CROSS.
Hello and welcome in to this website. My name is Ron Cooke.
We get a glimpse of how things were in the beginning of the Book of Acts on where they met, what they did and how they organised themselves after the Master was taken home to be with Father. They lived originally in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) and met in complete unity, discussing the Masters teachings through the Shlichim (Apostles), broke bread together and praised Father (Acts 2:42-47).
After Stephanos was stoned to death (Acts 7:59, 60), Believers were persecuted and spread out away from Yerushalayim. As the Book of Acts developed, with the subsequent issuing of Letters from Rav Shaul (Paul) and others, there can be seen the outline formed in Yerushalayim being filled in as questions arose on how to live out Torah in a Gentile and hostile world.
Have you ever wondered why the numbers of early Believers grew exponentially? I have…Could it be that they were totally dependent upon the Spirit and closest to the original teaching of the Master? After nearly two thousand years this teaching has been distorted into denominations, creeds and doctrine.
Today, the vast majority of so-called churches are run as a business with their ledgers open more than their Bibles. They have relatively large numbers of exclusive members paying for the upkeep of the buildings and paying large wages. They show off their buildings with some pride and look for ever bigger and better premises. In 1 Cor. 12, Shaul likens all Believers to one body. When the sperm meets the egg, the embryo increases in size but does not grow indefinitely bigger. At a certain size, the embryo divides in to two parts and so on until maturity. I believe in the meeting in households and as numbers increase then the group some split up and satellite groups develop. This ensures that a group is kept in close contact with the local community and that as the group expands, people within the group are mentored in order to be leaders in their own new group. The Body Universal will never reach full maturity until the Master returns for His people. He is our perfect example and all Believers are called to emulate Him so that as a Body we can approach maturity.
The best place for us to meet is AT THE CROSS. Hence the naming of this on-line assembly.
It is my aim for ATC to help these groups with material for discussion of scriptural topics and a brief Shabbat Word. However, I cannot do this without your help. All the bible studies are live documents and I will amend them as and when required as the Spirit leads. The Spirit leads perfectly, but I cannot follow perfectly so that sometimes I may get it wrong. We are all on the same journey to discover the truth and know Father better.
It is a common misunderstanding (or deliberate ploy of the enemy) that the media report on the dwindling numbers of Christians meeting in the developed world whereas Muslims are greatly on the increase. This is far from the truth. Yes, I suppose it is accurate in relation to the established denominations as these keep accurate records of the membership for financial reasons. However, the numbers of Believers leaving these established denominations are increasing, but little official records are kept of numbers. When looking at the developing world, there are thousands, if not tens of thousands coming daily into a personal relationship and accepting Messiah Yahshua as Master and Saviour.
Come in, take a look around and let me know what you think.
